I make the important decisions with my heart. Most of my day-to-day business decisions are logical and rational. But, the big decisions that require risk and always reap the greatest disappointments and rewards have always been made from deep inside where logic is cast aside and instinct kicks in.
Earlier this year I received a call from Rita. Rita and Jordan are throwing a big bash of a wedding on the Salmon River close to the border of California and Oregon in June, 2013. I tend to stay very local to San Luis Obispo in June because I often fill my schedule with multiple weddings each week during that time of year. Rita and Jordan’s wedding will have me out of town during my busiest season. But, there was something about her voice and the way she spoke of her love affair with Jordan that struck me.
I’ve had many experiences that have changed my life. Riding my bike up and around Canada and meeting so many incredible people along the way. Spending months driving around the country with my college sweetheart who taught me to fill every day with as much fun as possible and who would eventually show me how it feels to have my heart broken. And the incredibly fulfilling marriage Michelle and I share now. All of these things have come from decisions that had a lot less to do with reason and a lot more to do with heart.
Well, like I said, there was something in Rita’s voice and words that captivated me. Last night Rita, Jordan and I went out to take some images. Within moments of meeting them face to face I realized that my gut was correct. The love these two have for each other is raw. The things they say to each other sincere, and the tenderness they show, pure.
At this point, I’m not searching out life changing experiences. It seems that they come at me no matter what I do. But, I do desire moments of clarity and inspiration. I’m excited by what I’m going to be a part of up on the Salmon River next summer. Nothing inspires me more than telling the stories of families and friends coming together to celebrate a marriage between two people that are truly in love.
