Seacrest Wedding Photography

Shooting weddings close to my house reminds me of why I love living where I live and love doing what I do. Katie and Tim’s Seacrest Resort wedding in Pismo beach last Saturday was remarkable. Many of the guests traveled from Southern California and were delighted by the pleasant Central Coast weather and laid back lifestyle. I started shooting early in the afternoon and couldn’t help but notice how well organized everything was and how so many of the details were thought out and being executed without a hitch. There was no official coordinator or obvious person in charge except Tim and Katie. While Katie slipped into her dress, I could see through the window Tim out on the lawn double checking every detail.

These two organized their wedding themselves and they did a great job of circumventing any unforeseen problems. With so many of the small details taken care of prior to the day, you might think that a sterile quality of going through the motions and enjoying the party was all that would be left. In fact, I half suspect that Katie and Tim thought this might be the case as well. Until he saw her walking down the aisle.

The evening breeze had just kicked up, whipping the palms above the archway into a rustling frenzy. The noise from the trees, the surf below and the gulls above created a sense of urgent anticipation for what was about to happen. And what happened was pure joy. Years and months have counted down to this day. The small chats over coffee, the all night conversation that kicks off a serious courtship. Making the move to live together and working to resolve all of the daily issues that come up. And then making the commitment to be together. To work things out. And not give up.

I saw their history in Tim’s eyes and felt their love for each other as he took her hand. As if he was taking her hand for the very first time.

I remember reading the lyrics to a song once. I haven’t a clue who wrote it. But, it went something like this:

We have this moment to hold in our hands

and touch as it slips through our fingers like sand.

Yesterdays gone and tomorrow may never come; but we

have this moment today!
