Last Sunday I went outside to find ice on my car windows and a front yard filled crunchy popsicle grass. In January, the mornings in San Luis Obispo always start off cold, but as the days progress, the Mediterranean climate kicks in making the afternoons warm and comfortable. Alissa and James were married last week at the Flying Caballos Ranch wedding venue here in San Luis Obispo. Flying Caballos is within eyesight of my house and has a magical quality that keeps it one of my very favorite wedding venues. I took pictures of Alissa and James a few months back (HERE) and got to know them a little. Suffice it to say that their romantic engagement has set the stage for a lifetime of happiness. I look forward to keeping up with these two as the years go by.
I got to talking with one of their wedding guests and she asked me what I love most about being a wedding photographer. I’ve heard this question before and I’ve answered this question many times but, this time it got me thinking. I gave her one of my standard responses: “I love the time I have during the week to be with my kid” or, “I enjoy being paid to be artistic” or, “I love a great party!” As I was editing these pictures I thought more about my answer to the question. I do enjoy very much being a wedding photographer, so the query is valid and accurate. However, there is more to the answer than attending at a great party with great food and being paid to take pictures of it. Going to weddings and seeing people make a leap of faith into the world of marriage inspires hope. The inspiration and hope for goodness and a happy existence is something I am surrounded by. I am constantly reminded of the goodness and love that is in my own life. And this is addicting! Being a part of a day where the one thing that matters most is two people that have decided to join together and say to the world that they will love each other and help each other to find happiness for the rest of their lives is simply wonderful~!
So, that is my amended answer to the question. I’m sure as I grow and as my family continues down our path, my answer will change a bit, but for now, that’s what I love the most about being a wedding photographer.
