Kacy and Jay flew in from back east a week before their wedding. We decided to do their engagement session that Monday out at Flying Caballos Ranch. Although I didn’t have a chance to meet them prior to their engagement shoot, Kacy and I have been friends on Facebook since we had first talked on the phone almost a year ago. The second I saw her, I felt very at ease and completely comfortable. These two are smart (both doctors), easy to talk to and absolutely adore each other. The respect and love they share transfers easily to film. That Monday was my 4th day of shooting in a row and I was tired. The fatigue didn’t last long. Kacy and Jay were so open to me doing whatever I wanted and finding just the right images, that I was instantly inspired and the adrenaline really got things going.
Their wedding took place on Sunday at Still Waters Vineyard up in Paso Robles. Still Waters Vineyard is one of my favorite wedding venues. It sits on top of a small hill overlooking vineyards and as the sun sets, the light shoots down the valley giving incredible warmth to the images. There is something very intimate about this setting that seems to attract really amazing couples. And Kacy and Jay are an amazing couple. The emotion that surrounded their wedding affected everyone present. I haven’t seen that many people cry good tears throughout a wedding day in a very long time. I got a bit caught up myself when Kacy’s dad stood up and said a few soft words before dinner was served. This was a joyous celebration. A celebration of two people who found each other and have decided to make a life together. A life full of love, commitment, fun and respect. And this is a big deal.
